Pomen naravnega poroda

To ni naraven porod. O strahu in porodu, je na Ted talku govorila Ina May Gaskin.

Despite the fact that most of our grandmothers gave birth to our mothers at home, natural birth got a different connotation. Disfigured assumption that natural birth is dangerous lead to the fact that most of the woman are afraid of labor pain and to avoid it they are turning to epidural anesthesia without knowing of the consequences which it bears.Confessions of mothers who gave birth in Slovenian hospitals are so different as the experience of birth itself. But most of them have a common story about how they were forced into the position that didn’t suit them, how they didn’t have support from nurses and doctors, and how nurses throw themselves at pregnant woman’s belly and by doing this broke some ribs. This is not a natural childbirth.

The business of being born

The documentary film The Business of Being Born is focused in the situation in the U.S. which compare to Slovenia is extreme in the terms of a number of cesareans. The documentary breaks distorted ideas about natural childbirth and highlights the fact how much it is important that a woman gives birth in a position that suits her and to have the support of the people around her. I found very interesting to see clips of women who just gave birth in a natural way, where you can see with what force she see seized to her just born child. One of the doctors in the film explains how crucial that moment is and why. In that moment when the child is born, mother produces something like cocktails of hormones of happiness and love and it’s crucial that child gets this immediately. And that is the case in natural birth, while in hospitals first they clean, weigh and after few minutes they give the child to the mother.

Zgodbo o Agnes si lahko ogledaš v dokumentarnem filmu »One World Birth: Freedom For Birth«.

One of the biggest freedom of natural birth fighters comes from Hungary. Her name is Agnes Gereb. She is a doctor and a midwife who has worked for 22 years as an independent midwife and has helped 3,500 births at home. After the incident at birth outside the hospital, that happened in October 2010 she was sentenced to two years in prison and a ten-year ban on her activities. Then the protests started not only supporting Agnes and to have a fair trial, but also to legalize the right to have natural birth a.k.a. birth at home. After 3 years, 4 months and 15 days, Agnes was released from house arrest, but the court ruled that Agnes is now able to move freely in Budapest and its immediate surroundings, but may not leave this area, nor advise pregnant women. Apparently dangerous midwife. Protests supporting Agnes, right for giving birth at home, public pressure from various countries around the world and action against the country, as it happened in the case of Anne Ternovszky, Hungarian, who suit the State because of the impossibility to give birth at home, have contributed to the fact that Hungary has now adopted or legalized birth at home. The story of Agnes you can see in the documentary film “One World Birth: Freedom For Birth”.
